T-Bar Rows
Standing over a bar anchored at one end, you row the loaded end up to your chest. A heavy row that is easier to keep steady than a barbell row.

BEFORE YOU START2
- Load the plates on the free end of the bar.
- Stand over the bar with the handle between your feet.
HOW TO DO IT
Get into position
- Push your hips back and bend your knees to reach the handle.
- Grab the handle with both hands.
- Lift the bar off the floor and stand with your back flat, leaning forward about 45 degrees.
Check: Your back is flat, knees slightly bent, and the loaded end hangs below your chest with straight arms.
Row the bar
- Pull the handle up to your chest, keeping your elbows close to your body.
- Squeeze your shoulder blades together for a second at the top.
Check: The plates are close to your chest, your elbows are behind you, and your back angle has not changed.
Lower slowly
- Lower the bar slowly until your arms are straight again.
Check: Your arms are straight and your back is still flat at the same angle.
That is one rep. Repeat for your set, then bend your knees and set the bar down with a flat back.
Breathe out as you pull in about 1 second; breathe in as you return over 2 to 3 seconds.

Red marks the muscles doing the work; amber the assisting ones. Same body for every exercise, so guides compare at a glance.
COMMON MISTAKES3
- Standing up with each rep. Momentum and the lower back take over. Fix: Keep the same forward lean; the arms do the moving.
- Rounding the back. Fix: Push your hips back and lift your chest until your back is flat.
- Using small plates so the weight stops the movement short. Fix: Use the largest plates you can so the bar reaches your chest.
SAFETY2
- Keep your back flat for every rep.
- Set the bar down between sets rather than holding the bent-over position.
